About

Serenity Swimming prides itself on high quality swim lessons, customizes lessons - every time!

Serenity Swimming is owned and operated by Jenni, and employees high quality instructors with many years of experience.

In private lessons, swimmers progress significantly faster, and we can focus on the complex skills that are difficult to master in a group lesson. Often times, in a group setting, children don't have the time to develop the trusting relationship with the instructor. Building this relationship allows them to express their fears and challenges so we can work through them together by breaking them into small, manageable objectives with positive praise each step along the way. Fun and praise is incorporated so the children want to do that skill they were afraid of (frequently underwater)

Likewise, for the rapidly progressing swimmer that is mastering skills quickly, we can move on to more challenging goals at their speed.

Jenni's background

I (Jenni) have a professional background in both swim lessons and lifeguarding, with experience teaching all ages and abilities! I have enjoyed working with children with special needs and adapting to how they learn best.

I grew up in Florida around water and went to the pool and lake everyday. I was on a USA Swimming Team for 5 years, and spent all 4 years of high school on the varsity swim team. I also swam the inaugural year of a Division 2 college swim team during my Senior year of undergrad. Some of the notable awards/ roles include high school: Co-Caption (senior year), Academic Athletic Gold Award, and Coach's Achievement Award. In college: Co- Captain, swim representative on the Student Athlete Athletic Committee, Sunshine State Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll (4.0 GPA), and College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division II Scholar All-America Team.

During summers in my high school and first year in college, I volunteered and then became staff at a Girl Scout camp where I taught swim lessons and lifeguarded, ultimately becoming the assistant waterfront director.

For 2 years when at community college, I stepped up to be coach the high school swim team with 25-60 swimmers (largest in the school’s history) to successful seasons in and out of the water. This included the girl's placing 2nd in their conference, and coaching 1 Academic All American Swimmer.

During graduate school, I lifeguarded for public and private pools, including being a lifeguard supervisor. I taught group, semi private and private swim lessons to a wide range of clients from special needs to triathletes, with a focuses as wide as overcoming fears, getting ready for vacation activities, working on a challenging skill, or just learning to appreciate the water.

As COVID-19 caused disruptions to swim lessons, I decided to start teaching a few family friend's swimming. After positive reviews from parents and watching kids transition from scared to excited for lessons, I decided to expand swim lessons to the public in 2022 as a way of taking a break from my duties on the farm at Serenity Grove Farm!

I have current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/ AED for the professional rescuer.

Outside of the pool, I can be found vegetable, fruit and herb farming at my farm, playing board games with my husband or hiking with our 2 huskies.

John's background

I (John) am a teacher by profession and spend my summer out of the classroom and in the pool.  I've worked with children of all needs and abilities.

I'm from Indiana originally and always spent my summers on a lake (either Lake Michigan or Lake Monroe).  I was first certified as a lifeguard while working at a Scouts BSA summer camp when I was 16.  By the time I was 18, I was training other lifeguards.

I've taught hundreds of kids (and almost 100 adults by now) how to swim and be more comfortable in and on the water.

Outside the pool, you can usually find me spending time near the water - be it a river or lake - along with my wife and our two dogs.

I have training and experience working with those with special needs.
