Hiring for Summer 2024 start: Mobile Private Lesson Swim instructor

Coming Late Summer 2024: New indoor swim school! Once open, year round swim instructor positions available

Serenity Swimming is looking for additional high-quality adult swim instructors in the Frederick area.

Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of experience teaching swimming to children, excellent communication skills with both children and parents. Ideal candidates will demonstrate maturity and I look very favorably on those with life experience given the non-routine nature of lessons.

Requirements: reliable vehicle/ drivers license, CPR certification (lifeguard certification ideal), pass background check, and minimum age 21.

Why work with Serenity Swimming?

- You set your schedule and amount of hours – it should be mostly consistent weekly but you can pick the hours (no weekends required but are available).

- A reasonable, livable hourly wage that is above average for the aquatics industry. Serenity Swimming is specifically looking for high quality swim instructors and your pay will reflect that.

- A flexible cancelation policy for sick kids. Allowing parents to cancel without penalty for lessons meant Jenni has avoided sickness from teaching swim lessons. The goal is for you to stay healthy.

- Owner/ operator. The owner (Jenni) is also an instructor. So Jenni will be able to help with solutions and understands the challenges of being a swim instructor. Many things (pay, cancelation policy, etc) were put into place to address challenges instructors experience at other facilities. Swimmers and instructors are more important than business profits.

- Company liability insurance, discount for your children/ grandchildren swim lessons

- Coming soon: expended employee benefits and bonuses

Serenity Swimming expectations:

- Full focus on your swimmer at all times; no side conversations, sipping coffee in the pool, phone, etc

- On time and prepared (swim suit, toys, knowledge of who you are teaching, no drugs/alcohol in system and ready to do a great lesson). On time defined as ready to enter the water at the scheduled start (we pay 15 min prior so you have time to prepare and be ready)

- Listen, follow directions, rules, and respect lifeguards/ managers at pools.

- Monitor weather and pool safety.

- Provide high quality lessons and service to each and every family

- Communicate scheduling needs

- Modest swim attire (avoid wardroom malfunctions, prioritizing tan lines, etc)

Ready to jump in?

Email SerenitySwimming@gmail.com with your background, why you would like to work with Serenity Swimming, desired summer availability, city (we will try to schedule lessons closer to you), and general availability for an interview. A paragraph, bullet list or resume is acceptable. If applicable, please note any experience with special needs, or language skills besides English

- Next step: on land interview/ conversation at a local café or library, or virtual if desired. Let’s make sure it’s a good fit for both parties.

- Next step: in water skills evaluation of a typical swim lesson. I have several families that I know very well and I’ll select one; I know their challenges so I would like to see how you handle them and your techniques of teaching. I will also evaluate your swimming/ treading water skills too.

- Final step- I’ll check with the parents and child of the lesson on their opinion and have a wrap up conversation with you.

If you are a parent or instructor that has been out of the water from teaching a few years, let us still connect. We can talk about refreshing your teaching skills before and/or after in water skills evaluation.

If you are a teacher/ school employee off or part time for the summer, we can ensure your schedule works around it.
